FAQ
About the Leather
Leather is a natural material from the hides of animals. Just like people, there are no two alike. Some of the leather I use shows the natural markings of the animal like scars and scratches and sometimes even the branding marks.
Hair-on cowhide is the most natural and is stain-resistant and soft to the touch. Some cowhide leathers are embossed with patterns like crocodile. Whether it's a smooth grain leather, vegetable tanned or oiled leather, they will all gain a rich patina over time with use.
How long have you been making bags?
I started making bags in oilcloth, canvas and vintage upholstery in 2008. After a handful of years and about a thousand bags later I was ready to transition to leather. Each bag is made by me from the sourcing of the leather and designs, to cutting and sewing in my Minneapolis studio.
Where else can I find Julie Meyer Handbags?
Outside of right here, you can find me and my bags at various art shows throughout the Midwest. Check out my current show schedule.

Care for Leather
Leather is a natural material and develops a rich patina over time with everyday use. I prefer this look and typically don't do much oiling and conditioning on the bags I carry. If your bag has been stored in dry conditions for a period of time, you might prefer to use a leather conditioner it to soften it. Leather conditioner can be found in shoe & furniture stores and online.

It happens sometimes - rivets pop or a seam rips. If you find yourself in this situation, let me know and I'll figure out a way to get your bag back in working order. I stand behind my work!
